Ruby Jewellery
Did you know that rubies and sapphires have the same chemical makeup, both being a form of “corundum”?! What makes rubies different from sapphires is their trace element, chromium. This is what gives a ruby its coveted, vivid red colour. Considered by many to be the most desirable coloured gemstone, rubies are incredibly sought-after, and their timeless beauty continues to captivate.
The majority of rubies (around 95%) are treated in some way. At Anglo-Continental, our stunning rubies are mostly heat treated, but we also use completely untreated natural rubies in some of our designs. Laboratory certificates of authenticity for these rare, unheated stones are available at a small additional cost.
