Emerald Jewellery
The most famous member of the beryl family, the striking, vivid green colour that emeralds are known for occurs naturally when beryl comes in to contact with chromium and, on occasion, vanadium. Emeralds are sourced from the Muzo area of Colombia (the desirability of these emeralds has made them incredibly valuable), Zambia and more recently Brazil, all of which produce beautiful, fine quality emeralds.
Unlike other gemstones, it is typical to see numerous, prominent natural inclusions inside emeralds. To find an emerald without any of these inclusions, or without oil treatment, would make it highly unusual and more valuable than most high-quality diamonds!
The majority of emeralds (more than 99%) are treated in some way. At Anglo-Continental, our sparkling emeralds are typically oil treated, which is the oldest and most traditional form of treatment for these beautiful gemstones. Certificates of authenticity for these stunning gems are available at a small, additional cost.
